I am both honored and privileged to serve as the President of the Coldspring Chamber of Commerce as elected by the Board of Directors for 2020! Dr. Martin Luther King had a dream; Barack Obama was the dream; I, Barbara Harrison Stanley Justice, am living the dream! I would have never thought that this little girl from Oakhurst, Texas culturally blended with two different races and American Indian would have had this opportunity. Dreams do come true! Trust and Believe, I will serve you all with excellence and professionalism. To God be the Glory!
In January, we installed the new directors, and set up committee chairs for all committees. On the 11th of February, we completed our first quarterly luncheon with over 40 members and guests in attendance. We began planning our 9th Annual Best of Banquet with a few changes whereby it is more closely aligned with the mission and goals of the Chamber to award and spotlight our Chamber members regardless of what County their business or organization resides. There will be less categories, but over 15 awards and recognitions as well as online voting. We have added a “Lifetime Honoree” award to recognize an individual who has supported the Chamber through the decades. Everyone will be able to cast one vote per category or grouping of options; Write-ins will be limited to specific categories where listed on the ballot. Our goal is to increase the number and dollar amount of scholarships awarded to local graduating seniors plus have a good time celebrating with the theme “Rock and Roll through the Ages”. Please come join in the fun!
We have had our first meeting to discuss the layout and planning of the 2021-2022 Chamber directory. Look for more information on this soon! The 2020 Wolf Creek Car, Truck and Bike show committee will have their first meeting in March. Although 2019 was a great event with record attendance, we plan to surpass its success and award more money to a local non-profit from the 50/50 drawing. We are excited to work with local organizations at the Christmas in July event in conjunction with our theme for Christmas on the Square. We encourage all of you to join us at Ribbon Cuttings and as many Chamber events as you can at the office and around the Square. Come join the Chamber, today, if you are not a member! We have a lot to offer!
With all that being said, this year has gotten off to a great start with the Coldspring Chamber of Commerce, (formerly Coldspring/San Jacinto County Chamber of Commerce). By the way, the name was changed back to its original name in November of 2019 to satisfy IRS guidelines. The new signage and logo will be displayed soon with a few changes to our building. Thomas Edison invented the incandescent light bulb; Michael Faraday was called the “father of electricity”. The Coldspring Chamber of Commerce vows to let our light shine by spotlighting our members and illuminating their businesses and organizations through marketing and sponsorship of Chamber events. We are so excited about this year, and I want to personally thank you all for your support! Drop by, call us, send an email, or visit our website and FaceBook page; after all, your financial investment in the Chamber keeps our LIGHTS on!
Barbara S. Justice
